Every person you meet has experienced stress. Some think a little stress is useful for keeping us on top of our game.
But living on a knife edge of stress can be damaging for our physical and psychological health. It can damage our relationships and adversely affect our performance at work and chances of success. With hypnotherapy you can find inner resources and the resilience you didn’t know you had to deal with what has passed, and what may come in the future.
How does stress affect you?The chemicals of stress – cortisol, adrenaline and norepinephrine are there to prime the body for a physical response – the flight or fight response.
Once upon a time in our evolutionary past when we were surrounded by deadly predators, our reaction to threats would have been instantaneous. We would have defended ourselves from the threat, or we would have fled from it.
The physical boost from these stress chemicals released into our blood would have been used in the activity of confrontation or running away. Once the threat had passed the levels of stress chemicals in our blood would return to normal.
Today most threats are less obvious, but our brain still puts us on a war footing every now and then.
The problem with the threats we face today is that they aren’t just physical they are psychological too. With so many low-level threats around, the stress chemicals in our blood can stay around for a lot longer. They can cause permanent damage leading to heart disease, high-blood-pressure, erectile dysfunction, diabetes and more.
How can Hypnotherapy help?
If you decided to choose hypnotherapy for stress, how would it help you? Well, for one thing, most people find hypnosis a deeply relaxing state. I teach all my clients how to use self-hypnosis, so that you can give yourself 15 minutes of relaxation of body and mind every day. You could even use one of my recordings to help you.
By building in relaxation during your day, you’re building resilience to stress into your life. You also bring down the levels of stress chemicals in your blood, improving your overall mental and physical health.
During a course of hypnotherapy we can look at what causes your stress and how you react to it. You can shed old habits and gain new tools. You can discover how to deal with future stress and how to regain your calm when you lose your cool. When you are less stressed you feel you have more energy to face challenges and do all the things you love.
