Yesterday I discovered that the ancient festival of Imbolc was being celebrated in the Celtic calendar. It is a feast rich with the imagery of rebirth, renewal, and spring-cleaning. It occurred to me that many of us still do that – clean and clear spaces in our homes around this time of year. How many of us enjoy washing the car, giving it a good wax, and cleaning the inside. Often we sit back from these tasks and take pleasure in the results of our efforts.
Is it time to declutter your life?
It occurred to me that there are other ways of spring cleaning too. Our minds can very easily become cluttered with all the ought to’s, must do’s, shoulds and musts that we pile on ourselves or have pressed on us. And if it is not enough to have present concerns bear down on us, then often past events weigh in against us too – even concerns about the future. It can all leave us feeling drained and not a little fearful at times.
This is the time of year when New Years Resolutions get forgotten in earnest. We often give up and let “real life take over” – or do I mean “take it’s toll”? Becoming resigned to failure can leave us resentful of others and there’s a risk of becoming embittered if we let it fester. Hypnotherapy can help you get back on track with the goals you set yourself at the beginning of the year – or even longer ago. It can help you examine where you got it right and where you went wrong, and help you find strategies for keeping on track.
Spring cleaning in the house allows us to chuck out all the accumulated rubbish of the previous year, to let the air and light in, to take stock of what we value in our homes and what we can really do without. The clean and clear surfaces, tidy cupboards and extra space give us a good feeling – until the next good clear out.
With hypnotherapy you can really get your house in order.
Hypnotherapy can help you “dust out the demons inside” as Elton John sang. You can sort out the present clutter, discover what your true priorities are, and let go of so much from the past that’s been dragging you back. Hypnotherapy can help you discover what is really useful to you in your life, what helps you to grow, succeed and find fulfilment. Hypnotherapy can also help you approach the future without fear or apprehension, but in a state of calm, confident, resourcefulness.
Another thing about hypnotherapy and personal spring cleaning is that it can help you to understand whether the demands made of you – the oughts’ shoulds and musts are of your choosing. It can help you discover what in your life and relationships allows you to thrive and what needs to change.
Hypnotherapy can help you reevaluate and meet change head-on.
With hypnotherapy you can in fact experience a renewal – a rebirth if you like – of the real you, the person you were born to be. And just imagine for a moment how great a feeling you would get from being you, free to be you not dutifully dancing to someones else’s tune, living someone else’s expectations, but being every inch the person you were put here to be! Trying to live the life that others have demanded of you takes an immense amount of energy and concentration, it’s a distraction from your real life – the one waiting for you. Living your own life spontaneously and without having to second guess and doubt yourself or feel unnecessary guilt actually allows you to thrive!
Looking after yourself in this way – by choosing hypnotherapy to unlock your potential won’t make you into a selfish, self-interested, arrogant person. Indeed it will actually equip you with resilience, self-understanding, calm confidence and the ability to do your job better, look after others better, and be a better mum, dad, boyfriend, wife or boss.
