Miscarriage can affect every woman and every woman’s partner differently. Therefore healing the hurt of miscarriage is going to be a different process for every woman and her partner. Hypnotherapy can help.
Miscarriage is an astonishingly common occurrence with as many as 1 in 8 pregnancies ending this way. The NHS defines it as “the loss of a pregnancy during the first 23 weeks” Which is stating it rather starkly and without reference to the often deep emotions that are experienced by the woman and often her partner. Though some women will respond simply in terms of not being pregnant anymore.
Healing the Hurt
Other women may suffer from guilt and self-reproach. Some women will grieve for the child they never held and nurtured to adulthood. Miscarriage can be a devastating event in a woman’s life whether it is the first and only miscarriage or one of several. Unfortunately, recurrent miscarriages occur in about 1 in every 100 women.
It has often be said that a miscarriage is natures way of ending the pregnancy of an unhealthy child – I can certainly remember hearing that said a lot when the women in my family lost their babies. It seems that there is some truth to this as it is thought that they are usually caused by chromosomal abnormalities in the developing child. The majority are not caused by anything the mother has done, but often women feel they have failed or are to blame in some way.
There are many sources of help available for those suffering the effects of miscarriage including hypnotherapy to help over come the grief and guilt – which is why I have written “Healing the Hurt of Miscarriage”. Available for other professional therapists to purchase to use with their clients. This will be followed at some point for a “Script for Fathers” where the woman’s male partner is suffering grief as a result of the loss. Then there will also be a “Script for Partners” for situations where the bereaved relationship is not heterosexual.
